The most-viewed news story for the month of May on Nonwovens-Industry.com was the news of Ontex Group completing the divestment of its Mexican business activities to Softys S.A., a personal hygiene company with operations across Latin America and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Empresas CMPC S.A., headquartered in Chile. The transaction includes Ontex’s manufacturing facility in Puebla, Mexico, its branded business in Mexico as well as related exports to certain regional markets. The business employs around 1000 blue-collar employees and 350 white-collar employees. Ontex’s manufacturing facility in Tijuana, Mexico, will remain with Ontex and will form an integral part of Ontex’s North American operations and supply chain footprint. Meanwhile, the second most-viewed news story in May was about the launch of Swiffer’s PowerMop. The breakthrough 3D Mop Pad includes 300+ powerful scrubbing strips made up of six layers of two-sided strips to provide five times the cleaning power vs. the WetJet pad to tackle tough messes on finished floor surfaces. The 3D Mop Pad’s fibers are positioned in a looped design to provide just the right texture to entangle and capture loose soils and hair, while also allowing the PowerMop to break down tough, sticky messes with ease.
